WellsFargo Bank. N.A: Update Your Online Account Information
If you have seen this: WellsFargo Bank. N.A: Update Your Online Account Information, in your email box you may not be aware that your identity may be stolen using trojans. This is not a repeat phishing post, but rather a new one that is quite similar to the recent ACIPCO Credit Union and PayPal posts.
My anti virus program picked up a trojan: Trojan-Spy.HTML.Fraud.gen. I realized that the trojan is connected to other email scams circulating on the Web. If you have received online phising emails like the Wells Fargo one you may have been hit by emails from posers of reputable institutions like ACIPCO, PayPal, Bank of American, and others. The attackers are out to take a hold of your identity by exploiting weaknesses in your email and Internet browsing programs. This particular trojan is aimed at Internet Explorer version 5.x and 6.x. If you have not updated your Internet Explorer browser you may have sent a lot of personal information to the identity thieves.
You can prevent identity theft by updating your anti virus database and doing the same for your Web browsers. If you are running Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Internet Explorer you are the most vulnerable. This is mainly due to the huge spread of Microsoft products in the market. If more people use PC’s over Macs it is only understandable that the greater the reach for hackers and other criminals the more lucrative are their devious undertakings.
